DAMASCUS An Arab League foreign ministers' committee on the Palestinian Intifada is to meet in Damascus soon, Syria's official news agency SANA reported Tuesday.

Syrian Foreign Minister Faruq al-Shara discussed the planned meeting of the follow-up committee with Arab League Chief Amr Mussa in a telephone call, SANA said, without specifying when it would take place.

According to the Cairo-based league, the Damascus meeting is to be held in the first half of November "to examine the situation in the Middle East after the attacks in the United States", AFP said.

The follow-up panel of foreign ministers was set up at an Arab summit held in the Egyptian capital in October 2000 to focus on the Intifada, or uprising, against Israeli occupation and financial support for the Palestinians.

It comprises Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen and the Palestinian Authority, as well as the Arab League's secretary general.
